To Hell and Back
This is a classic WWII film originally released in black and white. It is about the real life exploits of an American hero named Audry Murphy. The movie actually starred the real life Audry Murphy. This was an unusual twist. The real life hero did a surprising good performance in this movie. In one of the film's more memorable scenes, the film's hero jumps onto a burning tank and machine guns dozens of enemy soldiers before they can corner he and his buddies. He hops off just before the tank explodes. Unlike war pictures with John Wayne or other fantasy world actors, this movie has a real hero playing the role of his own real world heroics. This alone makes the film a classic. |
