The Novel Originally published in 1963, this novel by Pierre Boulle served as the main reference that the Planet of the Apes saga was created from. The novel features a somewhat different take on the Apes than the first five films showcased. Out of print for many years, the book has just now been rereleased in anticipation of the July 27th, 2001 premiere of the new Planet of the Apes film.
